HAMILTON, BERMUDA— The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is aware of a posting on social media, labelled as being sponsored, which appears to be a fabricated report from the Royal Gazette which claims that “the Central Bank of Bermuda” is suing a Member of Parliament.
The posting features a link to a multiple page PDF which includes a copy of what it calls an “Official Bank Statement” issued by the Authority, complete with an unauthorised version of the Authority’s logo. The Authority does not provide retail banking services. Therefore, this bank statement has been fabricated.
The social media posting and pdf document directs readers to an online crypto-currency trading platform called PrimeAurora. PrimeAurora is not licensed or registered by the Authority to conduct any regulated activity in Bermuda.
