Biography

Let’s get a little candid, tell us something that caught you by surprise or you least expected after you graduated.

Since graduating, my biggest surprise has been the workload. One of the adjustments I have had to make is becoming more organised while continuing to grow my knowledge and learning to navigate my workload.

If you compare yourself now with when you first entered the GTP, how have you changed?

My growth from when I first started the programme in 2019 until now has been astronomical, to say the least! I have grown so much professionally and personally over the last few years. I have learned how resilient I am and how well I can adjust to an ever-changing environment. I can truly thank my secondment experience for bolstering my self-esteem, belief in myself and confidence when speaking and/or engaging with senior staff members or external clients.

What was the most valuable guidance you have received from a manager or colleague during the programme and how has it helped you?

I think the most valuable guidance I received during the programme was learning that it would take me about ten years to be at a mastery level in banking. It gave me peace of mind that I was exactly where I needed to be and that the journey would continue even after graduating.

What project or accomplishment during the programme are you most proud of and why?

I was most proud of completing my secondment and receiving great remarks from my managers at the Prudential Regulation Authority. I aimed to put my best foot forward and represent myself and the BMA well. It was also gratifying to have other people in the industry see my potential.

What aspects of your secondment best prepared you for success in your current role and how?

I think being thrust into a new country, working in a new environment with new colleagues and receiving challenging work helped to prepare me for success as a Senior Analyst. My fondest memory is having to present to senior managers on two different occasions; these were my first big speaking moments and I was surrounded by people who were very knowledgeable about their jobs. Although it was slightly daunting and I was very nervous to speak, nothing can describe the feeling you get when you overcome a fear. Since then, I still get nervous to speak in front of people, but my confidence in myself outweighs my fear.

What course/certification/designation earned during the GTP best prepared you for success in your current role and how?

The BIS-IMF Supervisory and Regulatory Online Course for Banking Supervisors (SROC) helped prepare me the most for my new role. The course is a heavy overview of various Banking areas such as:

  1. Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision;
  2. Regulatory Capital;
  3. Risk Weighting Framework;
  4. Other Prudential Requirements; and
  5. Supervisory Tools and Techniques.
