Biography

Let’s get a little candid for a moment. Tell us something that surprised you or you least expected after you graduated.

Initially, I was surprised at the BMA's pace of innovation. Far from your run-of-the-mill regulator, the BMA leads the charge in thought leadership and innovation, making it an incredibly dynamic place to work. The BMA is not just about financial regulation; it's about understanding the very pulse of Bermuda's financial services ecosystem.

How have you changed if you compare yourself now to when you first entered the GTP programme?

Ever since I started the programme, my analytical ‘chops’ and ability to connect with people have matured significantly. These skills are absolute gold in the regulatory environment, where picking up on subtle cues and building solid relationships are key. This is a testament to the programme's robust training framework. As a graduate trainee, I stepped into a role that was more than a job; it was the beginning of a profoundly enriching journey. I have had the privilege of collaborating closely with seasoned professionals, which accelerated my learning curve and allowed me to gain insights that otherwise would have taken much more time to develop.

What was the most valuable guidance you have received from a manager or colleague during the programme and how has it helped you?

The best advice I have soaked up cannot be captured in a single moment —rather it's been an ongoing conversation about levelling up personally and professionally with colleagues from all walks. It is so very important to start those conversations. Be ready to ask your colleagues about their climbs and what they have learned along the way. Share your own path, as well, with them. You will be amazed at how these exchanges can impact your growth and transform your perspective on your role.

What project or accomplishment during the programme are you the most proud of and why?

I was fortunate to be one of the trailblazers in the BMA's FinTech department. Starting from scratch, I was right there in the thick of it—hammering out the foundations and laying down the nuts and bolts for a new era of financial services. Being on the team that handed out the first-ever license was such a privilege. It was not just a career highlight for me, but a landmark moment for the Authority and Bermuda's financial services sector.

What aspects of your secondment have best prepared you for success in your current role?

My secondment in the UK was nothing short of a career-defining experience. Being seconded to the Financial Conduct Authority and the Global Financial Innovation Network, I dove into pivotal projects on the global regulation of digital assets. Meeting with regulators from across the globe, I played a part in crafting cross-border initiatives that aimed to develop and knit a tight, cohesive financial services sector. This experience revolutionised my outlook and sharpened my skills in steering and sculpting regulations, skills that are absolutely critical in my role today.

What course/certification/designation earned during the GTP best prepared you for success in your current role and how?

The BMA's environment is one where your career path can evolve in alignment with your role and interests. It is a place where you are encouraged to develop into the professional you aspire to be. Throughout my journey in the programme, I actively pursued various certifications—be it in financial markets, insurance, digital assets, or data analytics—each tailored to the evolving needs of my roles. These were not just ticks on my resume; they were strategic choices, arming me with essential skills that drove me forward in specific areas. This is why I would not have wanted anyone else to hand me a list of courses. Instead, I was able to pick those that fit with my role and fit well with what I was currently doing or aiming to do next or even just something that sparked my interest. Chatting with colleagues who are walking the path I wanted to tread was also invaluable. I was able to hear about what they were learning and what might be out there for me as well.
